Many of us desire to change. We crave a different life; a better life. We want to be moving upwardly in our careers. We want a home we can call our own where no landlord knocks on the door every end month.

We really desire to drive a car or a better car. We want to feel happier and have a list of options at the palm of our hands.

We want to travel the world (at least I want) and interact with different cultures. There is a dream you have nurtured for long but you have never had the audacity to pursue it with the aggression of a Tibetian tiger.
You wake up every day and report to the same job that you passionately hate, doing the same mundane tasks that you loathe yet your addiction to temporary ‘stability’ can’t make you quit. You know you are supposed to be dancing because that’s what you do best but because you got a job as a banker, you are stuck with it. And time is flying. With each minute passing, you are trading your purpose for a penny. With each sunset, a day more has been wasted.

You eat junk food and every time you take a bite, the guilt almost makes you throw up and you swear that you will never take it again. Yet a day later, you are back in the same cage again. Your appetite has taken you captive. You just can’t say no. Like Daniel in the lion’s den, your appetite surrounds you and you feel like you are in a hole. A deep dark hole.
You indulge in pornography. You have read of the negative consequences in the short, medium and long term. Yet you are a slave to your lustful passion.

You can’t control your zip. Your wife is the most adorable person in the world. She has sacrificed her dreams and ambitions to see yours thrive. She has carried your babies sacrificially in her delivering a bouncing baby. She forgives, she loves peace, she is hardworking, she is gentle, she is sacrificial etc but you can’t just be faithful. You feel possessed by 10 demons. Or even 100 demons. You can’t just say no. You get the thrill of cheating. Though you know your wife deserves better, you still continue to give her a raw deal. You vowed to be faithful, to hold and to cherish, till death do you part but the marital bed which you were commanded to keep clean is now flowing with filth from your actions.

Yes, you know that you are meant to achieve more. That when you were woven in your mother’s womb, a certain definite purpose was also deposited in you. Maybe you hold the key to unlocking the AIDS virus menace yet you are stuck in an accounting job. Maybe because of you, Africa will be finally United under your leadership yet you are stuck in medicine.

You were meant to walk on the face of the moon, hoist Kenya’s flag and make us all proud but you can’t just stop selling GNLD because you are so focused on the now, you aren’t willing to sacrifice for the future.
You wrote a whole bucket list. To start the gym, to save more, to do more adventures, to laugh more and forgive more yet you haven’t achieved any of that. Fear paralyses you. You feel like you can’t risk and do anything worthwhile so you watch movies to get the same feeling but you feel cheated.
You were to read more books, pray more and give your all but you haven’t risen from the miry clay for love of series movies. Yet change takes a commitment. It’s not a fuzzy good feeling. It doesn’t taste like sugar. Sometimes it’s a compilation of salt and vinegar. Worse still, it tastes like a camel’s urine. But you don’t give up. You keep at it until you have broken through. That’s what gives success. That’s what makes heroes. They keep at it. Even when it sucks, they still insist on doing it. When they are tired and they feel like their bodies are giving up, they still go on until the pain becomes part of the process. What are you willing to give up to go up? What are you willing to sacrifice so that you can succeed?
